DO YOU REMEMBER------?

A Look Back At 1961


The beginning of a new year always seems to bring a wave of nostalgia for times past.  Herewith, a backward glance at fifty years ago.

In 1961:

     The U.S. population was 183,691,481
     Life expectancy was 70.2 years
     Average yearly income was $5,735
     Federal Minimum Wage was $1.10

     The Chevy Impala was the most popular U.S. made car at $5,380.

  1. I didn't realize the Chevy Impala cost so much in 1961! I don't wear thongs and will never wear one...they look totally incomfortable to me, however, I'm oh so happy I don't have to wear the underwear of the 1800s...what were they thinking?!!! I do I miss hose stockings or whatever they're called these days...NOOOOOO! Don't miss girdles or the belts one had to wear monthly either, talk about torture! Actually I did used to give Don flowers on Valentines Day...he loved it! And I loved it when he gave me flowers too! I like the aroma therapy bear that you microwave...is that for real, where do I find one?
